About Motion Trio

Motion Trio, the formidable Polish accordion ensemble, made its name by combining the fire of Eastern European music with the ice-cold precision of the greatest Classical composers.

Motion Trio’s impassioned music has been praised by contemporary maestros such as Michael Nyman, Wojciech Kilar, Krzysztof Penderecki, Bobby McFerrin, and Joe Zawinul.

The group owes its highly unique sound to its artists’ original compositions, especially those by its leader, Janusz Wojtarowicz, as well as by Paweł Baranek and Marcin Gałażyn.

Since it was founded 20 years ago, Motion Trio has gone a long way from busking on the streets of European cities to the world’s greatest music halls, including New York’s Carnegie Hall, London’s Barbican Centre, and Vienna’s Konzerthaus.

Participating in Motion Trio’s concerts is an emotional experience not unlike Paganini and Metallica concerts due to the ensemble’s powerful and exciting sound which, importantly fully preserves the timbral purity of the accordion, bereft of any reprocessing, addition of other instruments, or technological tricks. The artists employ only their perfect accordion technique, imagination, and talent. Listeners are astonished by the inimitable and highly unique tone combines the influences of minimal music, jazz, rock, and folk—the “motion music,” defined by Janusz Wojtarowicz as “music on the lookout for new sounds, new possibilities in accordion performance, new perspectives on the so-far underexploited yet fascinating instrument.”

The so-far 12 recorded albums have gained a lot of recognition for Motion Trio, including praise from both classical and jazz music critics.

Motion Trio has performed in 43 countries, including all the continents. Its musicians play instruments manufactured by Pigini Sirius Millenium, recognized as the world’s best accordions.
