It is with immense pleasure and great honor that, on behalf of myself and the entire academic community of the Jagiellonian University Medical College (JUMC) in Kraków, we present to you the inaugural issue of the renewed and revitalized scientific journal Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review. This momentous occasion marks the continuation of a longstanding academic tradition, while simultaneously ushering in a new era for one of the most historically significant medical journals in Poland.

As highlighted by Professor Ryszard Gryglewski in his editorial, Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review holds a unique and distinguished place in the annals of Polish medical history. Established on January 24, 1862, following a resolution passed by esteemed professors of the Jagiellonian University and members of the Department of Natural Sciences of the Kraków Learned Society, the journal was created with the primary aim of advancing medical knowledge, fostering intellectual exchange among scholars, and addressing key health challenges of the time. It rapidly gained prominence as one of the oldest scientific periodicals of its kind in the country.

Throughout its eminent history, Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review has served as a platform for disseminating critical scientific discoveries, pioneering medical research, and scholarly discussions that have significantly contributed to the evolution of health care practices in Poland and beyond. Over the decades, it has published a vast array of influential, innovative articles, covering a diverse range of medical disciplines. By doing so, the journal has played a fundamental role in shaping the development of medical science and education, elevating the standards of clinical practice, and fostering scientific collaboration among researchers, clinicians, and health care professionals.

The decision to revive Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review stems from a shared commitment among the editorial team and the authorities of the JUMC to reinstate the journal’s legacy while adapting it to the contemporary demands of biomedical publishing. We recognize that, in today’s rapidly evolving medical landscape, it is crucial to uphold the highest academic standards and embrace advancements in scientific communication. With this renewed vision, we aspire to transform Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review into a premier platform for high-impact research, featuring cutting-edge studies, critical analyses, and thought-provoking discussions that will be of interest to a broader, both national and international, medical community.

At this point, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the initiators of the revival of Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review, namely Professor Maciej Małecki (Vice-Rector of the JUMC) and Professor Grzegorz Gajos (Vice-Dean for Scientific Research and Development at the Faculty of Medicine at the JUMC). Their remarkable initiative and dedication played a crucial role in launching the efforts that have successfully led to the journal’s re-establishment. I also extend my appreciation for the trust they have placed in the entire editorial team.

In line with this commitment, we will ensure that every article published in Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review undergoes a rigorous peer-review process, guaranteeing the highest levels of academic integrity, scientific accuracy, and methodological credibility. Our editorial team, in collaboration with an esteemed panel of reviewers and subject matter experts, will meticulously evaluate each submission to maintain the journal’s scholarly excellence.
