The passing year has marked a singular and meaningful chapter in the history of Przegląd Lekarski – Jagiellonian Medical Review (PL-JMR): the inaugural year of its renewed launch under a new editorial vision. It has been a period devoted to careful construction rather than consolidation, laying firm foundations rather than celebrating long-established outcomes. Collectively, we achieved the publication of 33 articles, comprising 6 original research papers,1-6 12 review articles,7-18 7 clinical image reports,19-25 and 8 editorials.26-32 However, this message serves not merely as a summary of activity, but as a reflection on the collective dedication that made this new beginning possible.
Above all, I extend my deepest appreciation to the authors who entrusted the journal with their scientific work during this foundational year. Submitting a paper to a newly reopened journal is an act of distinction and confidence. Your contributions, encompassing original investigations, reviews, and clinical images—including experts’ perspectives—have defined the journal’s intellectual character from its very first renewed issue. Through your work, you have shaped its scientific voice, clinical relevance, and academic rigor, becoming, in essence, co-authors of this new chapter in the journal’s distinguished history.
I am equally indebted to the reviewers, whose contribution during this year has been both rigorously critical and essential. Establishing standards, harmonizing expectations, and ensuring consistency demand exceptional vigilance, particularly at the very beginning of the journal’s new chapter. Your thoughtful, and frequently instructive, evaluations not only refined individual manuscripts but also helped set the bar of excellence to which the journal aspires. Peer review, especially at such an early stage, is a profound expression of academic integrity, and your commitment has been exemplary.
To our readers, I offer sincere thanks for your trust and engagement. A journal may be formally launched by editorial decision, yet it attains true vitality only when its content is read, reflected upon, and integrated into scholarly discourse. The growing attention afforded to PL-JMR affirms the need for a contemporary, credible, and academically grounded medical journal—one firmly rooted in the Jagiellonian University Medical College tradition, while remaining fully engaged in modern scientific challenges and international dialogue.
Our gratitude is also due to the Jagiellonian University Medical College, whose institutional support rendered this reopening possible. At a time when academic endeavors are often measured by immediacy rather than endurance, the University’s commitment to revitalizing a scholarly journal stands as a testament to its ongoing dedication to education, scientific integrity, and intellectual independence.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge the Editorial Board, whose insight, professionalism, and readiness to build processes from the ground up were vital throughout this inaugural year. Building solid editorial structures, robust ethical frameworks, and a bold, coherent scientific vision demanded more than expertise alone—it called for patience, foresight, and a deeply shared sense of purpose.
The first year of PL-JMR in its renewed form has been a beginning—a deliberate, dignified, and collaborative one. We enter the coming year with humility and ambition, guided by a clear sense of responsibility to our authors, reviewers, and readers alike.
