Professor at the Jagiellonian University, Kraków, Poland. Chemist and biochemist (enzymology, glycobiology), in recent years involved in the study of biology and biochemistry of cancer cells (signaling pathways triggered by adhesion molecules, hormones, growth factors and their inhibition, metabolism, biomechanical features, etc.). Awarded the title of Honorary Doctor (Hon. DSc) by The University of Edinburgh for achievements in scientific research and international education (2016), and the Students Laudations award in the category Special achievement (2017) granted by the Jagiellonian University Students Council.

Former Vice-Rector of the Jagiellonian University for Medical College (2012-16), Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for international collaboration (2002-2008), Head of The School of Medicine in English at JUMC (2002-2012), Member of the Jagiellonian University Senate (2012-2020). Currently, Member of Executive Committee of Polish Biochemical Society, member of the Scientific Committee, Le Studium—Institute for Advanced Studies, Orleans, France; Chair of the Federation of European Biochemical Societies; President of the Jagiellonian University Alumni Association.
