Leczenie za pomocą osobistej pompy insulinowej można zaproponować każdemu choremu na cukrzycę (zarówno dorosłemu, jak i dziecku). Trzeba jednak pamiętać, że terapia ta wymaga od chorego dziecka i jego opiekunów stałej i dobrej współpracy z diabetologicznym zespołem edukacyjnym. Pacjent i/lub jego opiekunowie są zobowiązani do prowadzenia starannej i sumiennej samokontroli, muszą także zrozumieć zasady działania czynnościowej intensywnej insulinoterapii i opanować technikę obsługi osobistej pompy insulinowej. Niespełnienie powyższych warunków oraz zaburzenia emocjonalne i psychiczne stanowią czasowe przeciwwskazania do zastosowania leczenia ciągłym podskórnym wlewem insuliny. (2013, 2014)
