Próba rozkurczowa to 2 badania spirometryczne, drugie badanie poprzedzone jest podaniem adekwatnej dawki leku rozkurczającego oskrzela. Celem tego testu jest ocena zmian wartości wybranych wskaźników czynności układu oddechowego pod wpływem ponadstandardowej dawki leków rozkurczających oskrzela.

Kierując pacjenta na badanie spirometryczne, należy przekazać mu kilka istotnych informacji, które mogą mieć wpływ na wynik tego badania.
Lista wskazań do badania spirometrycznego jest długa, ale z praktycznego punktu widzenia podstawowym i najczęstszym wskazaniem jest podejrzenie przewlekłej choroby układu oddechowego wysunięte na podstawie objawów podmiotowych i przedmiotowych i/lub wyników badań pomocniczych.
Na każdym wyniku spirometrii powinny znaleźć się dwa wykresy (V-T i F-V) oraz podstawowe parametry mierzone i wyliczane (FVC, FEV1 i FEV1/FVC). Dobrze, jeśli jakość badania można potwierdzić za pomocą parametrów „technicznych” (BEV, FET, EOTV oraz dFVC i dFEV1).
